Our Mid-Month’s Poet: Jean Toomer

Storm Ending by Jean Toomer
Thunder blossoms gorgeously above our heads,
Great, hollow, bell-like flowers,
Rumbling in the wind,
Stretching clappers to strike our ears . . .
Full-lipped flowers
Bitten by the sun
Bleeding rain
Dripping rain like golden honey—
And the sweet earth flying from the thunder.

  2. So much imagery in that one. I can’t write poetry, but I so admire those who do.

  3. I don’t have much to offer here, but I don’t ever let that stop me from commenting.

Today I learned that Jean Toomer is a dude. That’s something.

Also, if I may make a literary comparison–when I hear the poet’s name, I think of the line spoken by renowned thespian and statesman Arnold Schwarzenegger in the beloved film “Kindergarten Cop:” — It’s not a tumor!
