Great song! I actually haven’t heard too much Jackson Browne, but I love the song “Lawyers in Love.” Not sure if you’ve heard it or even would like it (I think it’s a lot poppier than his regular stuff), but it came out when I was a kid, and it’s a prescient look at the (then) coming 1980s. “Eating From TV Trays/Tuned In To Happy Days/ Waiting For World War III While Jesus Slaves/To The Mating Calls Of Lawyers In Love.” Another line I really dig: “Last Night I Watched The News From Washington/The Russians Escaped While We Weren’t Watching Them/ Like Russians Will.” Plus it’s got a really cool falsetto part in the middle.
As I recall, another song on that album was “Tender Is The Night,” the title of which was sadly plagiarized by some alcoholic hack writer.

I know the song but not the album. As is the case with so many artists, I usually take a liking to their earlier albums more than their later ones. I think the last album of his I listened to was The Pretender. In reading now about Lawyers in Love I see that some critics viewed it as “a dry commentary on American social mores and somewhat of a scathing critique of the conservativism and materialism of the Ronald Reagan era…” That got my interest. I’ll have a listen to it and see what I make of it.

Nice one. Can’t remember if we’ve talked about F. Scott before or not. He’s one of the authors that I’ve always been told I’m supposed to like but never could stomach. I think my main problem with him was that what he wrote about wasn’t of much interest to me.
